This week saw the traditional season opener with 10 teams contesting the annual Team Lightning at Alwoodley

As so often, it was a really close finish with five teams in genuine contention coming into the last round.  Congratulations to Leeds, who got home by a solitary half point.

Before the tournament started Paul Gelder announced that he'd found a silver salver in the Alwoodley store cupboard, which is engraved as the trophy for the Leeds Chess Association Individual Lightning.  No-one present could remember when this was last played for, and we don't currently run such an event, so it was decided that until such time as we do hold an individual lightning event, the salver should be presented to the player with the best individual score in the team event.  This turned out to be Younis Quereshi, who was the only player to achieve 5/5 on the night playing on board 5 for Moortown 1.

If you know anything about the history of this salver - please let me or any member of the committee know.

Here are the full team results  ;-
